(This tour will partly be conducted on foot.) Visit a family home in Mondesa. Prepare Mahango (local porridge) and sample traditional food. The Living Desert tour is a unique 4x4 adventure drive through the dunes outside Swakopmund. The guide is skilled at tracking and finding the living creatures of this seemingly dead environment: sidewinders, Palmato geckoes, Namaqua chameleons, FitzSimon’s burrowing skinks, sand-diving lizards and scorpions. Learn about the plant-life of the desert, of its insects and minerals and experience a ‘roaring’ dune.

The tour ventures into the archaic landscapes around the Khan and Swakop River Canyons. Motor boat or catamaran cruises are operated along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean near Walvis Bay. The boat visits Pelican Point, the tip of the sandbank forming the bay. Seals from a nearby colony play around the boats and pelicans fly along side, offering great photo opportunities. Often turtles and dolphins can be seen. A light lunch including fresh Walvis Bay oysters and sparkling wine will be served. En route back, see an artificial Guano Island from which guano is harvested and pass the deep water Harbour of Walvis Bay.
