Possibly,
one of the most unique places to stay in South Africa where we recommend
a two or three night stay.
Located 3 hours north of Cape Town, a scenic drive through the winelands
and in to the mountains will take you to Kagga Kamma. This private
reserve was once home to the ancient San Bushmen who left behind
some superb cave paintings, some sites dating back possibly 6,000
years.
There is a relaxed programme of activities to enjoy during your
stay; visit the rock art sites or enjoy a game drive to spot the
indigenous game (most antelope species and ostrich). However the
most spectacular sights of all appear after dark when millions of
sparkling stars and galaxies light up the night sky, Rangers will
explain the constellations on evening game drives or at the
newly built observatory.
Guests are accommodated in 15 unique luxury bushmans ‘caves’
and huts, either hewn from the mountains or in spacious thatched
rondavels. The lodge has a large swimming pool and garden, a cosy
pub, restaurant and a dining boma for starlit dinners around the
campfire.
To maximise your experience in this unique land, our expert rangers
will interpret the Bushmen paintings and their fascinating ancient
culture, on guided walks and drives. Other inclusive activities
include morning and night nature/game drives to spot resident species
such as Black Wilderbeest, Ostrich, Zebra, Springbok, Bontebok,
Gemsbok and many other antelope species including the huge Eland.
