DAY 1 – Arrive Livingstone
On arrival at Livingstone Airport a Thompsons Representative will meet and transfer you to your lodge. The River Club is situated on the Zambian side of the Zambezi River, 18 kilometres upstream from the Victoria Falls. The Zambezi National Park is located just across the river, and elephants are often seen on the riverbank and bird life in the area is rich. Hippos are regularly sighted (and heard) along the river?s edge. Enjoy a guided tour of the Victoria Falls, one of the seven Natural Wonders of the World.
DAY 2 & 3 – Livingstone / Northern Kafue
After breakfast transfer by road to Livingstone Airport, to embark on a light aircraft flight to Lunga River Lodge of approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes in duration. Upon arrival, enjoy a short nature drive to the lodge. Located on a raised bank of the Lunga River and within lush riparian bush is Lunga River Lodge with a stunning vantage point over the river?s meandering channel. The deep and clear Lunga River is the largest tributary of the Kafue River and flows north to south through a mosaic of Miombo woodland, riverine woodland and grassy ?dambos? in the north-east of the Kafue National Park. Species like puku and impala are abundant while roan and Lichtenstein?s hartebeest occur in lower densities. Viewing of buffalo herd and elephant bulls is good while lion and leopard are regularly encountered. Activities include game drives, walking safaris, guided canoe and boating trips as well as fishing.
DAY 4, 5 & 6 – Northern Kafue / North-western Kafue
Depart early from Lunga River Lodge on a road transfer/game drive through the Miombo woodland to the renowned Busanga Plains in the north-west of the Park. This transfer is approximately 3 hours in duration, en route possibly encountering eland, roan and sable to name a few. Busanga Bush Camp is located deep inside the wildlife haven of the Busanga Plains. Placed under the large fig trees of a small tree island, the camp features superb views of the flat game-rich plains that surround it. Floodplain, grassland and woodland islands comprise a habitat suited to extended game drives, by day and night. For those interested in birding, the park boasts 491 species, including endemics such as Chaplin?s barbet.
DAY 7 – After a short morning activity the safari ends at the Lunga airstrip, a return journey of 3 hours. From here transfer by light aircraft to either Livingstone or Lusaka Airport for your onward flight.
